ASCA President Ken Glazebrook met with CBC Provincial Affairs reporter Janet French to discuss parents' concerns about a possible teacher's strike this fall. He acknowledged that many ASCA Members will have parents in their school communities who will struggle with finding suitable childcare during a strike, and educational outcomes may be very concerning for many students.
Understanding that decisions made this year impacting teachers and students will be in force for several years to come, ASCA Members are hopeful for a mutually beneficial resolution, with no or minimal disruption to student learning and family well-being.

While speaking with reporter Devon Dekuyper, ASCA Vice President Meagan Parisian validated parents' concerns surrounding the uncertainty of schooling this fall, while negotiations between teachers and government are ongoing.
“There’s a fair amount of anxiety among parents who don’t know what to expect,” she said.
And while parents are concerned about the impacts a labour disruption may have on their own families, many are asking how they can support teachers and schools.
Parisian encourages parents to remember that teachers' working conditions are our children's learning conditions.
“When they are fighting for a higher standard in their working conditions, they’re also fighting for a higher standard for our children’s learning conditions,” Parisian noted.

As negotiations are taking place between the Teachers' Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) and the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA), a potential Alberta teacher strike has caused stress for many families with the school year set to begin early next month.
ASCA Vice President Meagan Parisian spoke with Red Deer Advocate reporter Sean McIntosh, citing concerns heard by parents across Alberta, as they wonder "What do I do if this happens?" Parisian also acknowledged the importance of allowing the two groups to do the work, recognizing that the outcome will impact education in Alberta for years to come.
"It's about what the school communities and learning conditions will look like five or 10 years down the road", Parisian commented.
