Alberta School Councils’ Association connects parents in education

The first in person gathering since 2019, the Alberta School Councils’ Association (ASCA) will bring school councils in Alberta together to CONNECT at their annual conference event and business meeting this weekend in Edmonton.

“We are looking forward to coming together to learn, share, build community, and deepen connections to the invaluable resource that is parents on school councils.” Says ASCA President, Brandi Rai.

The School Councils Conference and ASCA Annual General Meeting (AGM) is April 21 - 23, at the Delta Marriott Edmonton South. More than 200 delegates are expected to attend development sessions, network, and discuss current provincial education issues.

Working to strengthen parent engagement in education, ASCA provides a voice for parents as the provincial organization representing school councils in Alberta.

“Parents are partners in education, and their contributions are vital for student success,” says Brandi Rai, ASCA President. “This event empowers school councils as their engagement enhances the quality of Alberta’s education system.”

The AGM determines association policy that forms the basis for ASCA advocacy. Topics this year
include Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks, Integrated Education Funding, Climate and Biodiversity Education in Curriculum, Rights of Victims of Bullying and Violence in the Education Act, Consultation for Proposed Changes to Legislation, Regulations, or Established Programs or Practices, and Student to School Counsellor Ratio.
