School Trustees

School board trustees serve an important role in Alberta’s education system.

Trustees are elected officials who advocate for students and families in their local community. They do so by governing the affairs of their local school jurisdiction, assessing education policies and setting priorities for education based on student needs.

Trustees have a direct—and positive—impact on student learning and their local community. They work to strengthen and advance education, which helps ensure that students have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.

More information about school board elections—including the nomination process and corresponding forms—can be found in the School Boards Election Information Package, posted on the Alberta Education website at

Albertans vote for their school board trustees as part of general municipal elections.
