Alberta School Councils’ Association promotes parent engagement in education

Embracing the online environment to promote engagement in public education, the Alberta School Councils’ Association (ASCA) is hosting its annual conference event and business meeting in a virtual format online this weekend.

Working to strengthen parent engagement in education, ASCA provides a voice for parents as the provincial organization representing school councils in Alberta.

The School Councils Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) is April 23 - 25, presented on the eventmobi web platform and utilizing Zoom video conferencing. More than 300 delegates are expected to attend development sessions, network, and discuss current provincial education issues.

The AGM determines association policy that forms the basis for ASCA advocacy. Topics this year include the Alberta curriculum, technology funding, achieving universal public education, equal opportunity of access to all public schools, and allocating public funds to public education.

“Gathering online, the AGM is where the voices of member school councils are heard,” says Brandi Rai, ASCA President. “Parents are partners in education, and they play a pivotal role in student success. This event encourages school council contributions to enhance the quality of Alberta’s education system.”
