Alberta School Councils’ Association promotes parent engagement in education

Embracing the online environment to promote engagement in public education, the Alberta School Councils’ Association (ASCA) is hosting its annual conference event and business meeting in a virtual format this weekend.

The 2022 event will consider “School Councils: Cultivating Compassion”, promoting the work of school council and wellbeing in the school community to benefit student success.

The School Councils Conference and ASCA Annual General Meeting (AGM) is April 22 - 24, utilizing the Zoom video platform. More than 225 delegates are expected to attend development sessions, network, and discuss current provincial education issues.

“ASCA knows the importance and power of parental voice in education through school councils. The education and empowerment of school councils across our province is meaningful work and necessary because we know the engagement of parents in the education system is vital for student success.” Says Brandi Rai, ASCA President. “We are grateful for the local support and advocacy that school councils offer their communities.”

Working to strengthen parent engagement in education, ASCA provides a voice for parents as the provincial organization representing school councils in Alberta.

“Parents are partners in education, and they play a pivotal role in student success,” says Brandi Rai, ASCA President. “This event encourages school council contributions to enhance the quality of Alberta’s education system.”

The AGM determines association policy that forms the basis for ASCA advocacy. Topics this year include Diploma Exam Weighting, Policy Review for Operations and Maintenance Funding, and Restoration of Funding for Alberta School Councils’ Association (ASCA).
