Development and Training for School Councils

ASCA provides skill development and training at no charge for all school councils in Alberta.

In order to meet the mandate of Alberta Education from the Ministers Forums on School Councils in 2000, instructional workshops were designed to ensure sufficient training opportunities for school councils were available throughout Alberta.

Workshop instruction is based on content from the Alberta School Council Resource Manual.

Workshops are facilitated by trained ASCA instructors, delivered in communities across Alberta, on a weeknight or saturday, at no cost to your school council.

There are four workshop topics available:

  • Roles and Responsibilities of School Council
  • Recruiting and Retaining School Council Members
  • School Councils and Planning
  • School Councils and Fundraising Societies: Important Similarities and Differences

If your school is interested in having a workshop:

Pick two dates (1st & alternate choice) for your workshop:

  • Saturdays
  • Weeknights

Call (780) 421-8002 or 1-800-661-3470  or email workshops or click here

  • Provide the school name and address; the school board name; contact person with phone number, address and email address
  • Please include the name of your topic choice and date preferences

ASCA will:

  • Coordinate the workshop
  • Provide trained instructors
  • Cover all costs related to instructor's travel and accommodation
Your school council/organization agrees to:
  • Arrange for suitable workshop location, facility & equipment
  • Collect and submit requested background information on the School Council for the instructors
  • Guarantee the attendance of at least 5 school council members
