Student Assessment

The Alberta School Councils' Association along with the associations representing School Boards and School Superintendents are interested in what Albertans have to say about testing and assigning student marks.

A lot of discussion has taken place lately regarding assessment in Alberta (the no zero policy being an example). Due to the Inspiring Education initiative, and what an educated Albertan will look like in the future, Alberta Education is currently redesigning curriculum along with assessment practices.

The discussion paper Measuring Up: Student Assessment in Alberta, was commissioned by the three associations, and written by John Rymer, a consultant, recently retired as Executive Director for Learner Assessment for Alberta Education. He is also Program Coordinator for the University of Calgary’s M.Ed Specialist program in Assessment.

Public engagement input from each association will be summarized and submitted to Alberta Education to be fed into the assessment redesign.

Please take some time to read the discussion paper and provide your input on the following discussion questions in our survey format. If you experience difficulty, or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
