Alberta Education Curriculum Development


Premier Rachel Notley and Education Minister David Eggen announces a new series of initiatives to improve education and skills training for students, starting with a major consultation on future Alberta curriculum.


The Government of Alberta is launching a new series of initiatives known as “Future Ready” that will co-ordinate and improve education and skills training to better prepare kids for success in a changing economy.

The first initiative to launch under Future Ready includes an online survey to ensure that parents and other concerned Albertans have their say during a comprehensive review of the province’s K-12 curriculum.

Alberta School Councils' Association (ASCA) is hosting a WEBINAR with Edmonton Regional Learning Consortium (ERLC) on November 8, 2016 to encourage parents and school councils to participate in the engagement process.

Alberta Education has extensive information on the Curriculum Development initiative including

  • Why change the curriculum
  • Design and process
  • How to be involved
  • Supporting teachers in the classroom
  • Meeting FMNI content commitments

as well as a curriculum development video outlining what they are striving to achieve for all students in the province.

Education stakeholders, including parents, will be invited to discuss future directions and current curriculum during sessions across the province.


Face-to-Face Sessions

Alberta Education is working with the Alberta Regional Professional Development Consortia (ARPDC) to provide face-to-face sessions that will allow education stakeholders, including parents, in different regions of the province to meet and discuss future directions and current curriculum.


Individuals and school councils are encouraged to contact the Alberta Regional Professional Development Consortia (ARPDC) to register for a session, to help organize another session for your group, or to gain access to the guide for hosting your own session.
